While the electric blue hair isn't an unusual sight for the weirdness that is Oshima Island and its teen population, the one thing that most people would notice about Kasumi is the clothes she's wearing. Oshima teens don't tend to have that much designer in their wardrobe.
Standing at around five foot four inches, Kasumi's footwear collection seems to consist of two inch high stiletto heels, but what can you expect from having been brought up in France, where the average height of a woman is more than in Japan? (And Paris to boot, a sophisticated fashion capital, making such heels and designerwear almost mandatory.)
Unlike many of the people on Oshima Island, who seem to have a more alternative or rock-inspired wardrobe, Kasumi's wardrobe seems to fit perfectly with the Parisian Fashionista look, with a twist of teenage culture due to brighter colours, bolder accessories and more denim. Her most commonly worn colours tend to linger between varying shades of blue and purple and lighter shades of pink. She rarely dwells on black or white as a colour to wear unless it is for something official.
She's a pretty girl, and thin enough to model, had she been taller. Her complexion and skin is fairly decent, though she is prone to sunburn, which means that she usually holds some type of sun protection in her bag. Her other most common accessory are sunglasses, which she tends to wear in even the faintest sunlight. Her hair tends to be side parted and put into straight bunches, with her fringe hanging loosely over one eye; though she also wears it ironed straight and loose, or loose and curly/wavy.
When Kasumi speaks, it is often easy to hear though she doesn't raise her voice. She has clear pronounciation and an unusual accent, due to the French which taints her Japanese, and vice versa. |
Having lived her entire life in Paris, Kasumi was more than lucky to be the daughter of two highly successful entrepreneurs who moved from Osaka to Paris when they couldn't make their fortune in Japan. Kasumi is actually their youngest, and only surviving child- out of the four children her parents actually had, one died in a cot death, and the other two (twins) were both still-born- making her an extremely precious thing to her parents. They never hid the truth of what happened to her sisters to her, giving her an early interest in death and the circumstances of it. Their financial welldoing also meant she was a bit spoiled, especially so as she was such a blessed event to her parents.
Her mother always wanted her daughter to be multi-talented and refined- both parents spoke strictly Japanese at home and Kasumi picked up fluent French through going to privately funded non-boarding schools. On top of this, her mother hired a tutor for Kasumi to learn English as well, which Kasumi loved. Her mother also insisted on Kasumi being taught to play instruments, most specifically piano, flute and harp. Kasumi kept with all three instruments from the age of five to the age of ten, when she persuaded both her parents into letting her concentrate on the harp.
Her father, on the other hand, favoured teaching Kasumi how to act in high-class Parisian society and sent her to summer schools which taught eloquence, etiquette and posture. She learned things such as never speaking unless spoken to and how to entertain company.
Her rebellious streak started because of a boy. And that boy's name was Laurent. He had none of the fortune she did, but tended to be found outside the gates of the school she was attending. He was handsome, she was pretty and he loved to tease her about being 'daddy's little girl' and saying she'd 'always be financially dependent on her parents because she couldn't manage her own business'. Somehow these words cut through to her and she took Laurent's bait, agreeing to see his world. In turn, he showed her the seedy reality of much of the upper-class and how he spent his time selling and organising drug connections for the rich people who were hooked.
Their relationship was fast-paced and electric and Kasumi found herself working in the world he'd dragged her into, advancing quickly as well as getting hooked on the substances herself. With every sale of a drug she'd find a new vice- alcohol, smoking, clubs... almost everything except sex (in which she found herself completely monogamous).
About a year after the relationship had started, it ended and dissolved into a gruding rivalry, with some sort of undertone of friendship. Laurent had always had a bigger ring of contacts than she did, making their friendship a valuble asset.
By the time her parents had realised everything that was going on with her (trapped in denial that their daughter would turn out this way), she had dyed her hair electric blue. Rumours, of course, had flown around her school about her skipping lessons and her various other deliquent behaviours- many claimed she was sleeping around, and there were several reports of a most vulgar nature about her, of which each were false, but easy to believe considering her other crimes. Her parents then decided to send her to Oshima Island for college, where she would live with her aunt, who was far less lax about discipline, but unfortunately is at high risk of cardiac arrest so physical restraints are almost impossible for her to use. Her parents did not cut off her allowance, and chose Oshima due to its reputation for music. |
Kasumi has an exceptionally clear mind, considering everything she has been forced to learn, but this only serves to her advantage as it helps her remain mostly calm about things, and organise things quickly- the main reason she works so well selling drugs is because she can quickly formulate meeting times, drop offs and alibis.
Her upbringing has served to make her rather stoic and well-poised, and she does tend to reek of snobbery in this way. The wealth she seems to flaunt doesn't really help matters much, either. She will almost always concentrate on manners, first and foremost- she deplores those who won't adhere to manners even if it's just out of reflex for them to do so.
Kasumi has a general level of loyalty and a 'code' of which to follow. But of course, she measures people in terms of their worth to her first. She enjoys high-ranking positions in hierarchies, where she can give orders.
Though she is a generally polite person, she is also quite insincere, rarely meaning an apology- usually because she thinks she is in the right and shouldn't need to apologise. She will gladly (and fiercely) enter a battle of wits with anyone, should they so challenge her, and uses her multi-lingual capabilities to her advantage in exchanges. Though, she will also slip into another language unintentionally- due to a blunder, or being unable to express the word in the language she is currently speaking.
Because of her line of contacts (slightly on hiatus until Laurent gives her some names for Oshima contacts) her phone is almost perpetually on, and even more perpetually to her ear, or in her hand, giving messages to others. She enjoys knowing things- and tends to analyse people to find their triggers and such, often pushing them for her own morbid fascinations. The harder a person is for her to understand, the more she tends to be intrigued by them, seeing them as a game to be played and using them to better her understanding of people- she dislikes being confused about a person's intentions.
Kasumi is not above entering fights, but she'd highly prefer not to, as she wouldn't like to stain her clothes with blood. If she really wants to see you hurt/dead, she will probably get someone else to take care of it. It would be wise to not get her annoyed enough to slap you- she slaps hard. Thankfully, she never gets actually angry, at the most annoyed or irritated is what she'll feel. She also (currently) despises men. The gender. She can associate well with individual men, but loathes the gender as a whole.
